These models MacBooks have manufacturing defects of graphics card where it has display problems, graphics card failures and graphics chip failures.
The Nvidia 8800 graphics cards in these machine have a manufacturing defect which leads to graphical distortion on the display and or incomplete booting through. A very big problem on these machines, which lead to an extended repair program from Apple, which didn't fix the underlying issue. The fix we have for these is a temporary one called a Reflow or the other one is replacing the logic board. Since some of the signs of a failing graphics card are distorted images on the screen, so if you see distorted screen please contact us for a free evaluation of your machine. These MacBooks are going to need a complete diagnostics and will receive a repair service that is high quality.

MacBook Pro Retina (non-Retina) 2009 15" & 17":
Many models of the MacBook are plagued with issues that come up over time. We encounter the display coming away from the hinge area more often than any other issue. The issue is not covered under warranty and will cost more to repair than the machine is worth.
We have managed to repair the issue by simply relocating the display! The procedure is relatively straight forward and we were able to complete the repair with no soldering required.  If your display is in this condition, please consider bringing it in for an evaluation so we can see if this procedure will fix your MacBook. If it does, we can save you from buying a new machine or upgrading to the newest version.

Many people often mistakenly attribute the Kernel Panic issue on the 2010 MacBook Pro to a failed GPU. In fact, in most cases, the issue is with a tantalum capacitor on the logic board which has failed and caused a slight short to ground, so when the computer switches from the integrated  to the dedicated  GPU it causes a kernel panic. The solution is to replace the  capacitor. As you can imagine, this is only one of several issues this model of MacBook pro suffers from.
Kernel Panic issues: This is a very common issue on the 2010 MacBook Pros often mistakenly attributed to a failed GPU or graphics chip. In fact, in most cases, the issue is with a tantalum capacitor on the logic board. This capacitor often fails and causes a slight short to ground, so when the computer switches from the integrated  to the dedicated  GPU it causes a kernel panic. The solution is to replace the  capacitor. We have experienced techs to repair this fault.
Cleaning Case Fan/Heat Sink: Another common failure on this MacBook Pro is that dirt and debris entering between case fan and heat sink causing grinding of fans and overheating of mother board, CPU and other components. The fix is to physically clean this area using compressed air to remove all debris and reinstall the case fan correctly.

Macbook Pro  2011 15'' & 17'' :
Memory slot problem: This is an issue with the RAM not being correctly seated in the motherboard. If this happens to you, here's how to fix it:
1. Shut down your computer and disconnect it from any power sources.
2. Open the computer and locate the RAM modules. They are usually placed next to the hard drive.
3. Gently remove one module at a time, making sure not to touch any of its components with your fingers.
4. With the same hand, use a flashlight to look into the socket and check if there are any signs of corrosion or debris on its pins.
5. Gently clean the pins using compressed air, making sure not to chip off any component of the RAM module.
6. Now place the RAM module back into its position and shut down your computer again.
7. Connect your computer to a power source and press the power button for it to boot up again.

Macbook Pro  2012 15'' & 17'' :
Mac Service Plano have discovered a permanent fix to the GPU failure problem. This has been tested on every model of MacBook Pro released since Mid 2012. The fault is caused by a defect in the Graphics Chip. Fixing this problem can be done using a new technique which re-routes the output via a working chip. Our company will now offer this service for a fixed cost repair for those affected, including those out of warranty. We also offer the same service for Macbook Airs (since Late 2010) and Mac Retina Models.

If the memory failure is on one of the two sockets then the socket is dead. If one socket has a problem with a single module this will only be exhibited when that particular module is in that socket. Try each module in each socket and see if the failure remains with the socket or follows the chip.
If you find that the failure stays with the chip then you have an issue with the RAM slots on the logic board, but if the failure follows the chip into a different RAM slot, then you have a problem with that particular RAM slot.

Macbook Pro  2013 15'' & 17'' :

The only mechanical failure that is common among Apple devices, and that is hard drive failure. The vast majority of hard drive failures are a result of internal hard drive shock, which can damage the hard drive, or cause a malfunction in the hard drive. You may also see the following issue: your MacBook won't read the hard drive, or the computer will start to operate slowly, then one day it just stops operating. In fact, this is not only a hardware issue, but rather also be an issue with the cable. The cable connects the hard drive to the base of your MacBook Pro, and it runs through three 90 degree bends. These bends are not a problem when you're using your MacBook Pro, because there is no pressure on them. That is why they fail without warning - because there is no real pressure on them - until they fail. The reason for Hard drive failure is also its age.

Macbook Pro  2013- 2015 15'' & 17'' :

Randomly powering off? Recently it has been happening a lot of Macbook Pro 15 inch with Retina Display laptops powered off by themselves. Basically, after sitting idle for an hour or more, the screen will turn black and the laptop will appear to have shut off. However, if you listen closely you can hear a very quiet whine coming from inside.  The Intel Management Engine (ME), previously code-named LaGrande, is an engine that has complete control over a computer's hardware and software and gives the highest administrator privileges. The Intel Management Engine (ME) is a remote computer management technology built into all recent Intel based chipsets. It is designed to manage the hardware and to monitor, update and repair the computer even when it is powered off. If your computer has a broken screen or faulty keyboard, or any other problems, it would be under the control of the ME instead of you. This creates a huge backdoor through which hackers can attack your computer.

The latest Intel CPUs have a serious backdoor in them that allows attackers to remotely access your PC, steal passwords, and even infiltrate your webcam or microphone - whether or not you have any malware on your PC. The vulnerability, which resides in the Management Engine (ME), is present in nearly every modern Intel processor since 2008.

Swollen battery problem:
The battery on a MacBook Air is designed to last many years. In fact, Apple tests battery performance throughout the life of a Mac, and it's never designed to retain 100 percent of its original capacity after a certain number of charge cycles. Regardless, batteries in older MacBook Airs have a sealed enclosure that can make them difficult to service, and Apple has long recommended that if you do need to replace the battery, it's best to get the battery replaced.
Determining if your battery is swollen: The first thing you'll want to do is take a look at the bottom of your MacBook Air to see if there is any obvious swelling. If there is, stop using it and back up your data immediately. If you have any questions about the health of the battery in your MacBook Air, consult with any techs in Mac Service Plano.
