MAC SERVICE PLANO

When your MacBook Pro's hard drive crashes, your laptop or any Mac device gets lost, or your corporate data gets run over by a fire truck, or floods over your city, or what if fire or flood takes away all your digital medias and documents what would you do? The best ways to protect yourself against these and any kind of  types of data loss is by using the best ways to back up your Mac devices.

Earlier, we would make a distinction between local backup software and online backup services. This distinction is no longer relevant because most competitive online backup services are now available locally at retail prices. Most online backup services have a cloud component and a local component. And some hybrid backup solutions have a combination of both. The online backup services are reliable, but they're not without their problems: proprietary software and services, limited storage space, lack of control over the storage provider, bandwidth restrictions, and file size limitations.

How to save your Datas and what is a Data loss:

A data breach is the loss of sensitive information that can lead to identity theft or fraud. Data loss refers to the destruction of sensitive information. It’s a specific type of data breach, falling into the ‘availability’ category of data security. The other two categories being incorruption and confidentiality.
Generally, backing up is simpler then restoring, but there are two main ways to do it. You can use backup software to create a backup image (the industry's term for what most people call a "backup file") and then restore that image if anything goes wrong. Or you can just back up your files on a regular basis without creating an image file, so that you can restore individual files more easily. This method is often called "file synchronization," because it synchronizes data from one drive to another, so that both have the same content.
With both methods, the idea is to put a copy of your files onto storage separate from your main hard drive. That storage can be another drive, an external drive, a NAS (network attached storage), a rewritable disc, or if you don't mind paying a little bit extra someone else's servers.

You can buy an external hard drive, plug it into your computer, and save all of your files there. But if you need to get them back from a dead computer, you have to plug the hard drive back in and copy your files back over. If the broken computer has no working ports say, if it’s a laptop than you’re out of luck. To get around this issue, take a cue from online backup services: Keep your data on remote servers, which you can access from anywhere. This setup is called cloud backup, and it has two big advantages. First, you don’t have to worry about losing your files when your own computer breaks. And second, if you migrate to a new computer (or reinstall Windows on your current one), you can copy your files back over and make them available while you set up your software again.

Differential is the default, but it's not ideal for everyone. Here's what you should know about using differential instead of incremental. You need the latest full backup and all the intermediary backup data to restore a file to its original state. Macrium Reflect will do this for you automatically, but when you restore individual files that have been backed up in this way, they will be restored to the state they were in when you backed them up.In contrast, with a differential backup, you don't need all the intermediary data to get back to an earlier point in time. Macrium Reflect will give you a file's most recent state if it was backed up with Macrium Reflect 5 or later. Earlier versions required that you had backed up a file at least once as an incremental backup before you could use them with a differential backup.

The most common causes of Data loss are:

  • According to new research, human error accounts for three-quarters of incidents where sensitive data is lost. The report, by cyber security firm Vormetric, surveyed over 300 data professionals in various industries and found that the average cost of a security incident is huge. The top three most common causes of data loss are user error (accounting for half of incidences), policy violations 25 percent and malicious or criminal attacks 18 percent.
The findings indicate serious cause for concern, especially given that the majority of information security breaches that are caused by human error. User error is responsible for half of all sensitive data losses, followed by policy violations either deliberate or accidental accounting.

Human Errors:

The human factor is the leading reason for lost or damaged data: 30% of problems can be attributed to user errors because of incorrect configuration of the hardware, insufficient preparation or a lack of knowledge concerning the proper operation of computer systems.
According to statistics, data loss due to human error is the highest of all cases, making it a widespread problem. Human errors become the main reason for data loss in most of the data loss cases. There are many factors that can contribute to this, but generally mistakes happen due to inattentiveness or lack of experience.

Software Corruption:

Software failure is mainly caused by incorrect file system recovery. It can also be due to resource conflict in the operating system and file system. It’s therefore important to keep your OS and file system conflict-free. Always use the right file system recovery software.Technology, like life, is a cycle of cause and effect. To be sure, computers are pretty great. They're capable of doing and storing a tremendous amount of data, as well as allowing us to access information from just about any place on Earth. That being said, making the wrong move could bring an abrupt end to the all the fun you've been having with your hardware. Data recovery tools, file system recovery software, and corrupted file system repair tools are available and you can use them even if your device has a lost datas because its software is corrupted, or it's damaged, or improper shutdown or power failure has ed to data loss.

  • Computer viruses and Malware:

  • Malware and computer viruses programs which have the ability to replicate themselves, and spread from one system to another across a network. They attach themselves to executable files that they often appear to use. By doing this, they will execute in sequence and infect other files. These viruses are actually discovered a long time ago. Since then, many more viruses have been created. These days, you can hardly count how many different types of viruses existing in the digital world. It is very important to always keep your antivirus updated so that it can check for malicious threats in the meantime.
Ransomware is one of the fastest growing categories of malware and it’s also one of the most feared one even though until recently, it was technically difficult to deploy. However, according to the researches, ransomware attacks have increased over 600% in the past year, while the average ransom has increased drastically. According to recent studies, almost two-thirds of all small- and medium-sized businesses have been targeted by ransomware.
The crypto virus, also known as ransomware, encrypts the existing files on the affected machine using RSA public-key cryptography, with the private key stored only on the malware’s control servers. Once inside the victim’s machine, the ransomware blocks access to all content and threatens to delete any files if the ransom is not paid in a very specific timeframe. The malware then spreads itself through removable drives, network file shares and email attachments.

  • Harddrive Failures:
  • Although the first version of Microsoft Access was released in years back, the Access database program still runs on many machines and is a popular option for small and medium sized businesses.
Losing valuable data stored on the disk is a nightmare for every IT specialist or even for every person. The current statistics reveal that each year about 6 million computers break down with data loss as a consequence because of Hard drive failure. It means that 42% of data loss is due to hardware failures of one kind or another.
The hard drive is one of the most frequently broken devices, and being corrupted is the most popular reason for data loss. That's why every IT specialist must know how to fix a broken hard drive. The best way to avoid serious problems is preventive maintenance – regular diagnostics and inspection enable identifying malfunctions at an early stage, thus keeping the damage from growing or even preventing it altogether.
As a rule, we advise having your hard drive checked once in three months. It's the only way to be sure it's working well at all times, which results in minimum inconvenience in case of failure. Besides, such regular maintenance tasks may be done by yourself ,you only need follow step-by-step instructions provided by the manufacturer. One of the most common reasons for malfunctioning hard drives is physical damage to their structure, usually taking place because of dropping the laptop or striking it against some sharp obstacle. While an external casing can be easily fixed using superglue or any other household adhesive, disk platters can't be restored without specialized tools and equipment.

  • Theft:
  • The greatest advantage of MacBook Air and MacBook pros are you can use it on the go. Regrettably that also makes it prone to theft of the device making it a leading cause of data loss.

  • There are different ways you can backup your Mac Device:

Backup your Mac device with Time machine:

If you have an external hard drive, you can connect it to your Mac device and use it to back up your computer and its contents with Time Machine. You can use an encrypted volume as your backup volume, which means that the backups will be accessible only to users with the password. To encrypt a Time Machine backup volume, you need an external DriveDock or other Thunderbolt-compatible device, or a hard drive with built-in encryption. Time Machine will back up all of your data including documents, photos and other files. And when you add multiple drives for backups, each backup volume will be named for the backup disk it contains, such as “2015 Backup Disk” or “2016 Backup Disk." If you have a Time Capsule with a USB port and it's connected to your Mac, you can also use it to back up your data. To allow Time Machine to back up directly from the USB disk without having to connect the disk to an external hard drive, select “Back up using Time Capsule.

USE TIME MACHINE WITH EXTERNAL HARD DRIVES:

USE TIME MACHINE WITH AIRPORT TIME CAPSULE:

Open Applications folder, locate Utilities folder and then locate Airport Utility. Select your Time Machine and click continue. From the sheet that appears, select Time Machine you wish to use as your backup destination. Select the option to Encrypt Backups if you want to prevent other users from accessing your backup without a password.
