MAC SERVICE PLANO

The installation of software onto a network of computers can be a time consuming task for any IT professional. It often involves a multitude of software with various requirements, sometimes multiple versions of the same software, and sometimes different software requirements based on the network user, such as full administrative rights or limited access. At times, an administrator is bombarded with numerous software installation requests. This makes it difficult to manage and maintain the software that is installed on the network.
With so much on the plate, any possible means to reduce this burden is welcome. The use of a software installation tool can make this task much easier, when used with  any software distribution solution. Traditionally, a software is placed in a Network Share and the end users can install the software manually. This is where software installation tools come in handy.

The best way to keep your Mac protected is to keep it running the latest software. Whether you're running Mac OS Monterey, Mac OS Big Sur, Mac OS Catalina, MacOS Sierra, MacOS High Sierra, or an older version, there's a new feature in each macOS release that keeps your Mac safe and secure. If you are using a Mac running macOS 10.10 or earlier, you can keep using it all you want. You will not get any further security updates nor be able to run programs requiring Monterey or later versions of macOS. Whatever security risks you are currently having, you will continue to have. Just practice as much security as you can via modems, routers, firewalls, VPNs, etc.

Check the OS that you're currently using:

The steps to enable automatic updates depends on your operating system and edition. To learn what operating system you're using on your Mac device is as follows:
Click the Apple icon in the Finder bar at the top left corner of your screen
Select About This Mac
The OS line will list your OS.

Check your Mac device:

This is a guide for anyone who plans to do a clean install of OS X. A clean install essentially means you are installing the operating system onto a fresh hard drive with no other data or programs on it. On an older MacBook that has been giving you issues or on a brand new MacBook, you will want to do a clean install so your Mac device runs fast and smoothly.
The easiest way to start your clean install is to download the latest version of OS X (currently Mac OS Monterey12) from the app store. Once the download has finished, connect your Mac device and open up finder by pressing command F on your keyboard while holding it down. Click on Applications and click to highlight the application called Install OS X and click the right mouse button to get the drop down menu. Once you have clicked right, select Show Package Contents.  Now continue clicking once to highlight Contents and then go back one final time to highlight Info. At this point you should see a file called BaseSystem.dmg inside of Install OS X app. From here hover over BaseSystem.dmg and press command I while holding it down to get info on this file. In this box there will be a box that says "Name of Application". Change this name to "Install OS X". This is something that needs to be done in order for the next part to work correctly.

Check for Automatic OS updates:

The best way to update your Mac to the latest version of macOS is to make sure it's set to do so in the App Store. Open the App Store, click the "Updates" tab, and check "Automatically download apps purchased on other Macs." Now you don't have to look down at your Mac wondering "how do I update mac?" because it'll automatically push updates when Apple releases them. It's typically fine to have your Mac update automatically, but there have been some features that break old apps in newer macOS builds. We would caution you to consider your needs; if you can't risk apps not working or perhaps files being shifted around, we would advise against automatic updates. We're assuming here your Mac is running MacOS BigSur and the "App Store" application was updated. If it wasn't, go get the latest version of the "App Store" and update now. here's how:

From the menu bar of your Mac, select the Apple icon in the upper left
Open "System Preferences" and select "Software Update"
Check "Install system data files and security updates" and then click the "Advanced" button
Make sure all boxes are checked.
Operating systems are the most important piece of software on your computer. It manages your computer’s hardware and all its programs. The steps to enable automatic updates depends on your operating system and edition.

Check if your Mac device has sufficient space:

So you've got the latest MacOS, but you are running out of room on your Mac's hard drive. You want to upgrade, so you click on the Mac App Store, and Apple throws this at you:
Yes, that means it is going to download a massive 5.2 GB file!
And that's not all. After the download and upgrade, you will have just over 26 GB of free space left on your hard drive. And if there is not enough storage space available, things can go wrong while updating. If there's insufficient space after the upgrade, either make sure you choose "Install Later" when prompted, or delete some items off your MacBook to free up some storage (e.g., unused apps, large files stored in Dropbox). If you choose to update now, you might need more storage later. For example, if you update right now and then decide to try some iMovie or Final Cut Pro X editing, both of them require about 5 GB of storage for the software alone.

The newest MacOS upgrade comes a number of updates, such as the new Apple File System. To take advantage of these new features and security improvements, you'll be able to upgrade your system through the App Store. If you're not sure how to update your system, here's how to check if your Mac is eligible for an Apple OS update:
From the menu bar on your Mac, select the Apple icon on the top left, ,Select "About This Mac" from the drop down menu ,Select the "Storage" tab.Under "Macintosh HD," check if you have enough storage space available. If you have more questions about your eligible system, contact us here.

Check your Internet:

Let Your Mac Download the Latest Software Updates Over WiFi. While your macOS will remind you to plug in your device if the charge is not high enough for the update process, the quality of your internet connection will remain overlooked as long as it's there. This means you are better off checking your WiFi with tools like WiFi Explorer and do your best to help everything work nicely for your large update to fully download without a hitch. This WiFi analyzer and monitor can help you check your connection parameters.
If you've ever had issues with a sluggish update process or a failed attempt at installing the newest MacOS , connecting your computer to a different network might help you go through the installation process without hiccups. Some users have even reported success in using mobile phone networks to download updates even when WiFi is failing them. Most issues involving "failed" downloads are not caused by the quality of the internet connection, but by poor data management on the part of the user.
